Used Climbing Gear
Climbing gears are available in both forms in the market, one is new and the other is used (second hand). Rock Climbing is a very sensitive activity and in that regard, Rock Climbing gear should be bought used. If you are going to a long journey for climbing, the used climbing gear would not be a very suitable choice as it’s the life of the person which is going to be on stake.
When you look at the gear, you would have a fair idea about it that how used is it and would that gear be having the same life as the new one. For instance, the dust is like the most harmful thing for the climbing rope.
Once you observe the gear, you could the depreciation of the product and how would face the next journey. I would make a string statement here that one should only buy the used climbing gear if the person you are buying from is trustworthy enough for your life.
People usually plans to buy used gears when, either they are way too expensive to afford or they have just recently bought the new one but broke or lost it for some reason. Second hand or used gears can be very useful in case of the same being very well maintained by the ex-user.
So, that leaves buying new equipment as your safest best in most instances. Certain pieces of gear, like your rope and protection hardware (cams, nuts, belay devices, etc.) can be quite expensive. Fortunately, if well maintained, gear can last a long time. I would say that the best way to buy the gears would be either you buy when there are good and reasonable packages being offered by the producers of respective product or when there is an absolute season to buy the same.
Used gears should not be bought from the second hand product markets on priority, these should only be bought when you know that someone has not used for long or has kept the same well maintained. I am not saying that buying used climbing gears is the bad practice, but one has to be very alert while inspecting the product. Let’s understand this perspective this way; a climbing rope is the backbone of the climbing journey and if won’t be proper in terms of its length, strength and diameter, it will very dangerous for the person the respective venture. Secondly, if you are a professional in the subject, you should know when is the right season to buy the Climbing gear in terms of price.
You can also try doing one thing, buying in group that could also add value to the purchasing power and also that you can consult the alternate for the same. The chances of making mistakes reduce in this way and one can always decide to either buy or not the instrument. The discussion over the subject is crucial because climbing rocks is not an easy task and your life is at risk when you start so at least you go all prepared in terms of you and your tools’ fitness and perfection. This sense of making a wise decision in buying these tools comes with time and experience and also the keeping yourself updated with the relevant products and their availability in the market
